HISTORICAL DESCRIPTION

Replica of the Yarm helmet, England. The dating of this helmet is debated, ranging from the late 8th to the 10th century.
This helmet was discovered in Yarm, a small town in northeast England. Displayed for decades in a local museum, its authenticity and dating were long questioned. Recent research conducted by Durham University has confirmed its authenticity.
This is the first Viking helmet ever discovered in Great Britain.
This helmet, adorned with a distinctive crest, is made of four pieces of metal joined by riveted bands. This method of assembly is typical of the Early Middle Ages.
