Tureen penny, also called, tournaire or tournoza. Hardened steel coin stamp. Diameter 25mm. 13th century.

French silver coin minted in the Middle Ages (from 1266 to 1352). In Europe, the new piece was warmly welcomed, it quickly became popular and soon its imitation appeared: the English porridge (from 1279), the Prague Grosh (from 1300), the Dutch grot (from of 1302 years), German caves, etc.

Saint Louis IX (fr. Louis IX, Saint Louis; April 25, 1214, Poissy, France - August 25, 1270, Tunisia) - King of France in 1226-1270. Shortly after his death, the king was canonized by the Catholic Church (1297). Louis IX rationalizes the monetary system of France, introduces the circulation of royal coins throughout the country. Louis IX was also a well-known lover and patron of the arts, particularly architecture, with his church of Sainte-Chapelle, the cathedral of Reims and other temples.
