Historical informations

Pre-Roman Gaul, Treveri tribe. Quinarius type from Nauheim ND (early second third of the 1st century BC).
Obverse: Head facing right, with a thick neck, hair curled into two mounds, a prominent ear, and a beaded necklace.
Reverse: Bird-like figure facing left, holding a large torc in his left hand; annulets in the field and a laurel wreath around the edge as a border.
These silver coins, with their very distinctive style, are grouped in Series 33, "Moselle (Treveri) and Rhine Valley types." The so-called "Nauheim type" includes coins with the same bird-like figure wearing a torc.
