HISTORICAL DESCRIPTION

Oskol's helmet was discovered in a "kurgan" (a kind of tumulus) into the Russian territory, Belgorod Region, Voloknovsky District, Stolbische farm in 1869, and is dated between the 8th and the 10th century. A saber, fragments of chain mail and Byzantine coins accompanying the helmet in the tomb.

The question of the origin of the helmet remains enigmatic: it could have belonged to a nomad installed in Rus territory, or simply be a Rus production, imitating the style of Central Asia, like the helmet of Gulbische or the Chernigov one. Similar examples are known in Sogdiane, but also in Iran for the same period. Whether you embody a Rus, or a Nomad, this helmet will fit you like a glove!
