Historical informations
Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Frederick II facing right. Dated after 1231.
Eagle facing forward, wings spread, head turned right.
A very rare coin, minted in Italy for the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, and, quite exceptionally and remarkably, reviving an antique type in imitation of ancient Roman emperors' coins right in the heart of the Middle Ages. Unfortunately, the cleaning is visible, as it did not remove all the earthy deposits from the recesses.
