Historical informations

This coin is a Carolingian silver denier struck at Dorestad, one of the major trading centers of the early medieval Empire. It dates from the reign of Charlemagne or the early period of Louis the Pious (late 8th–early 9th century). These coins were part of Charlemagne’s monetary reform, which standardized silver currency across his empire. Dorestad played a key role in long-distance trade, making its coinage widely circulated in Northern Europe.
