the coin takes its name from the French king who produced it: Saint Louis. Diameter 25mm. Hardened steel.

Obverse: Cross + LVDOVICVS REX. Reverse: Chatel tournaments summoned to a TVRONVS CIVIS croisette. (engraver: Boischampion).

This beauty is afrench silver coin minted in the Middle Ages (from 1266 to 1352). In Europe, the new coin was welcomed cordially, it quickly became popular and soon its imitation appeared: the English groat (from 1279), the Prague grosh (from 1300), the Dutch grot (from 1302 years), German grottoes, etc.

Saint Louis IX (fr. Louis IX, Saint Louis; April 25, 1214, Poissy, France - August 25, 1270, Tunisia) - French king in 1226–1270. Shortly after his death, the king was canonized by the Catholic Church (1297). Louis IX streamlined the monetary system of France, introduced the circulation of coins of the royal coinage throughout the country. Louis IX was also a well-known lover and patron of the arts, especially architecture, with his church of Sainte-Chapelle, the Cathedral of Reims and other temples.
