Historical informations
Boleslav II, referred to by medieval chroniclers as Boleslav the Pious, was Duke of Bohemia.
Born around the year 932, Boleslav II was probably the eldest of Boleslav I. On the death of his father in 972 he inherited a powerful central European state, which included not only Bohemia, but also a large part of Moravia and part of Silesia, Lesser Poland and, undoubtedly, Slovakia. The administration of this politically strong country was based on a network of castles, and its integrity on the Christian religion and powerful troops of men-at-arms. Bohemia's position was essentially based on a sort of free union with the Holy Roman Empire, then in its infancy, and a friendship with Poland.
