Such type of caftans are known, thanks to iconography, mainly from Central-asia, where many proud warriors, who invaded western Europa cames from. Khazars, Avars, Petchenegs,etc.
The principle of the padded garment with an asymmetrical flap also existed among the Byzantines: they called this garment the bambakion.

To finish, there was also a Khazar Garrison in Birka, the famous Viking tradeplace, which is proving the intense relationships, mainly based on commercial trades, between norsemens and nomadic people. That could suggest that this very atypical, but comfortable and very protective shape of cloth, have been spreaded in Scandinavia too.

+15% cost for any XXL or larger body measurements. This additional cost - which is reasonable - is explained by an increased need for raw materials and by longer sewing work.
